Although many times conservation can be complicated or out of your control, here are ten simple things you can start doing to conserve energy... 1) Use less water. This may include using cold water when possible (heating water requires more energy), turning off the sink when brushing your teeth or, taking faster showers. 2) Make sure your dishwasher and washing machine are full before you use it. The less heat and energy you use the better. Also air dry dishes when possible. 3) Walk, bike, carpool, or use public transportation when possible. Cars use gas and energy. In addition, they release harmful chemicals. The less you can drive the better. 4) Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. For every pound of waste you eliminate or recycle, you save energy and reduce CO2 emissions by at least one pound. 5)Turn off the lights. Whenever you don't need light, don't use the extra electricity. 6)Close the fridge. When you leave the refrigerator door open it allows hot air to enter which make the fridge use extra energy to cool the food. 7) Close the curtains at night and leave them open during the day. The more you let the sun and outside temperature heat and cool your house the less energy your heater and air conditioner use. 8) Don't leave chargers plugged in when you aren't using them. Even when your phone isn't charging, when the charger itself is still plugged into an outlet it is using energy. 9)Clean your room. Dirt and dust in your house can collect and clog electrical devices, making them work harder or even break. 10) Use lids to cover pot and pans when you are cooking. This speeds the cooking process so that less energy is being used on cooking. Additionally, don't overfill the pan. This lengthens the cooking process and in turn uses more energy. Finally, use the correct size burner. If you are using one to large or small it will alter the cooking time and, again, use more energy.
